The US Midterms: A Global View

The US Midterms: A Global View

An outside perspective on the US midterms brought to you by ClearPath Strategies

December 2022

Dems beat expectations in 2022. They did it on the back of extraordinary candidates. But the more the Party requires candidates to win on their own, the further Dems stray from a coherent long-term strategy. The reality is, this Midterm could have been much better for Dems if the Party and leadership were assets. It is a mistake to think the brand is simply a problem to work around. It can be better. It must be better. Let's make it better.

Our aim in writing this series is two-fold. First, to provide a focused analysis of the election absent generic punditry. Second, to raise the alarm on the Democratic party’s errant strategy (or lack thereof). Read “The US Midterms: A Global View” here.

To better understand Americans’ attitudes toward Covid-19 vaccines ClearPath Strategies conducted a nationally representative poll of 1,015 U.S. adults. Instead of showing a red vs. blue divide, it showed that the collective American response to the pandemic has a bell curve distribution. At one extreme, 16% would do nothing and simply want Covid-19 to run its course. At the other extreme, 19% believe their states must employ radical measures like lockdowns. Most Americans, though — 65% — are in the middle, advocating some combination of targeted interventions, personal behavior change, and sheltering in place.
